There has been some debate over the last two years or so about whether infographics are still relevant.
But infographics are far from dead. In fact, they’re still an effective form of visual content.
Instead of fading into the ether, infographics are taking on new forms. For example, we’re seeing a lot more bite-sized infographics on Instagram and Facebook, as well as video infographics and other motion infographics.
And there’s certainly no shortage of infographics available. A cursory search on Pinterest will yield plenty of infographics of varying quality. Because let’s face it: a boring, poorly made infographic will bomb. But an original, creatively designed infographic can get you a lot of buzz. Here are three reasons why infographics are important for your online marketing plan.
Infographics are a top performing type of visual content.
According to a survey conducted by Venngage asking marketers about their use of visual content in 2016, infographics were still one of the top performing kinds of visual content for marketers in 2016. In fact, 41.5% of marketers interviewed said that original graphics, such as infographics, performed the best in 2016.
And according to the same study, 35.5% of marketers predict that they will spend over 31% of their marketing budget in 2017 on visual content.
Infographics can be easily repurposed across multiple platforms.
One of the reasons marketers like infographics so much is because they’re so easy to share. A well made infographic can stand on its own without the context of a blog post, or it can be used to augment an article by offering the information in a visual way.
You can also slice and dice and infographic into multiple smaller social media images, to make them easier to share across platforms like Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.
For example, if there’s a particularly compelling statistics in your infographics, or a beautiful chart, or a quirky illustration, you can crop that section of the infographic and make it into an image that people will like on Instagram.
Infographics are still novel enough to warrant a glance.
Infographics and other forms of visual content can really form the crux of your content outreach strategy. When I’m sending out emails to site owners and writers to promote content, infographics are the extra point of interest that encourage people to actually take a moment to look at my content.
That’s because infographics are quick to read and easy to absorb. While someone might not feel inclined to read an entire article sent their way, they at least may not mind taking a few seconds to look at an infographic, to get the gist of the article.
Infographics are more accessible than ever.
There are multiple tools available now that make infographic creation easy, even for people who don’t have much design experience. Because infographics have been adopted as one of the cornerstone forms of visual content for marketers, many marketers are looking to cut costs by creating their own infographics.
Plus, designing your own graphics is pretty fun!
So with this in mind, there isn’t really any reason why you shouldn’t be using infographic in your marketing strategy this year. If you’re not sure where to start, take a look at infographics that are performing well and see what elements you can emulate in your own infographic design.
